PCmag has a deep review comprehensive reviews the Kodak EasyShare C875 camera. This sleek camera features a 8.0MP CCD sensor, 5x Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon optical zoom lens, 32MB of internal memory, an SD/MMC card slot, and video recording capabilities (30fps @ 640 x 480). Here is the verdict.

In my experience, Kodak has consistently offered well-performing point-and-shoot devices, and I was happy to see very little noticeable shutter lag in the C875. Resolution averaged 1,850 lines, which is excellent for an 8MP camera. The bootup time was a respectable 3 seconds, and the 1.7-second recycle time was excellent. There was no pincushion distortion in my test shot, but there was a little more barrel distortion than I’d like to see, especially with just a 37mm wide-angle end of the zoom.

The Olympus mju 1000 is a camera with some very good points offset by some rather bad ones. It is about average for 10MP compacts in terms of picture quality, with good colour and exposure but poor noise control and some optical problems. Build quality, weatherproof durability, performance and ease of use are all good, but let down by poor low light focusing. The 6400 ISO setting is pretty much useless, but the Perfect Fix feature is very handy. It’s worth looking at if you need splash resistance, but there are better high-end compacts on the market.

Hitachi has two new camcorders with DVD burning capabilities. They are the DZ-HS301 and the DZ-HS303, that feature support for DVD-RAM, DVD±RW and DVD-R and also “One Touch Dubbing” by which it doesn’t make it necessary to have a host PC to perform video burning. The total memory of these cameras is about 8GB, enough to store quite a lot of media. The DZ-HS301 has a 1.3MP sensor with 800x digital zoom, while the DZ-HS303 has a greater 3.3MP sensor with a 500x digital zoom. Both devices have a 2.7 inch wide display. The DZ-HS301 costs around US$1449 and the DZ-HS303 costs about US$1649.

Olympus has announced a prototype of three dimensional camera made from Japanese evergreen wood at Photokina 2006. It is made by three dimensional compression of the wood using latest technology. Japanese cypress wood was compressed for the model. The hardness of the compressed wood exceeds that of plastic. Ultimately the Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi is a great entry-level digital SLR which improves on its predecessor in many respects. It has higher resolution without compromising noise levels, a wide variety of anti-dust features, a bigger screen which doubles-up for detailed shooting information, the AF system of its bigger brother and fast overall handling. The only thing that’s missing is a cheap lens bundle with Image Stabilisation. This will undoubtedly have potential buyers carefully weighing it up against the Sony Alpha A100 which costs much the same, while those looking for a tougher product may be tempted by the Nikon D80.

The new Olympus Stylus 810 is a compact 8MP camera with a 3x optical zoom, a 2.5 inch 230,000 pixel LCD, and a 28Mb of internal memory. Dcviews has a review of this camera. They wrote:

When you pick up the Stylus 810 you can feel that this is a quality piece of equipment. Its slim-line, durable all metal body gives the impression that this Olympus is built to last. Eastman Kodak Company has released a new 7.1-megapixel digital camera, the Kodak Easyshare P712. It features a 7.1 megapixels (CCD sensor) with 12x optical zoom lens, a 2.5 inch LCD screen with optical image stabilisation, a 3072 x 2304 pixels maximum resoluton, a high-rez electronic viewfinder, 30 frames-per-second VGA video with sound, and basic on-camera video editing. Its 7.1 megapixel sensor is paired with legendary KODAK Color Science image processing for spectacular, highly accurate color — shot after shot. Optical image stabilization provides a two-stop advantage over non-image stabilized systems for better capturing subjects in low light for both stills and video. It also minimizes handheld camera shake at longer focal lengths. The EASYSHARE P712 camera’s large 2.5-inch high-resolution indoor/outdoor color TFT display with adjustable brightness settings and electronic viewfinder simplify framing, reviewing and sharing pictures. For starters, the Nikon S5’s svelte metallic chassis is one of the thinnest I’ve used, making it the perfect camera to slip into your pocket and forget about until you’re ready to take pictures. Along with being thin, the camera boasts a distinctive wave-like design that’s less than a inch thick on the right side, providing a convenient handgrip. The left half of the camera has a slight ripple to house the impressive 3x optical Nikkor ED glass lens which does not protrude from the body even at full zoom. The majority of the rear of the Nikon S5 is taken up by the camera’s nice 2.5-inch LCD which produces great playback and live preview thanks to the screen’s 230,000 pixels.

This camera also features PictMotion function which gives users the ability to pick their favorite shots, movies, and music to create slideshows. It comes with PictBridge and USB connectivity and 21MB of internal memory.

The Canon PowerShot S3 IS comes to the ultra-zoom digital camera market with a unique set of features. It has the 12x optical zoom lens that qualifies it as part of the ultra-zoom market and couples it with an optical image stabilization system that works incredibly well. Canon put the lens on a chunky SLR-shaped body that looks almost professional with its black finish. The S3 has lots of options in its movie mode that aren’t available on any other digital camera and includes dual recording buttons so users can snap full-resolution pictures in the middle of a video clip. The optical zoom functions in the movie mode – and even looks smooth with the image stabilization system activated. Users can adjust everything from the audio sampling rate to the microphone level and wind filter feature. The still recording features are just as extensive. Full manual control is available, although the manual focusing feature is difficult to execute with the poor viewfinder and LCD resolution.

It’s a great prosumer camera with 12x optical zoom that can shoot videos at 30 frames per second with stereo sound and take pictures at the same time. It’s packed with a 2.0 inch Vari-Angle LCD and USB 2.0 connectivity for those self-photos and those hard to reach shots. Really worth checking out.
